Good luck everyone.

Irish International Fly Fair

The fair begins in just a couple of days time, we are already in Ireland preparing for the event.

There was a good turn out last year and I am sure it will be just as good this year with equally brilliant fly tying on show.

Celtic Fly Craft as always will be present and will be carrying an extensive range of our hooks.

We will be available to meet with trade, customers and fly dressers alike and look forward to answering any questions you may have.

This as you may well know will be our first outing at the IIFF as the owners of Partridge of Redditch and we have big ideas we would like to share with you all for the future. Along with giving you information about our two newest brands to the portfolio: American Fishing Wire and Mountain Media.

Hope to see you in the not too distant future,

Also don’t forget to check out our Blog where you can find some cracking bargains on some top quality products!

Partridge Hooks News

We have now moved to the new logistics centre in Wincanton, Somerset!  Reason being that we needed so much more space to accommodate all of the Partridge patterns recently arrived from the acquisition.  We can now proudly say that all Partridge Hooks are now available in the UK and can be shipped to the trade in 24hrs!!

OWNER Hooks

Just got another shipment in from Japan.  All the usual suspects ST36BC trebles, SSW and Mutu singles but also loads of new stuff like solid rings, crane swivels and ST56 trebles in both nickel and black chrome- these are heavy wire and super sharp so will be a great hit with Pike and Bass fishermen alike (ask at Exeter Angling, Mr Fish and Leslies of Luton).  Carp products have not been forgotten either so we are back in with braid scissors and all of the hooks (ask at Tackle Box, Specialist Tackle and Specialist Tackle).

BFFI 2009 - The Partridge Fly Tying Show

Thanks to all of you visiting the BFFI 2009, it was the best turnout that I have seen and was a very important show for us as it was our first outing with Partridge.  We met lots of trade, international fly dressers and customers all after answers about the future of Partridge.  A few considered below but you can also visit www.partridge-of-redditch.co.uk to stay ahead with new patterns and updates.  In the meantime, please feel free to ask us your most important questions about hooks!

Q:  Will you be stopping any hook patterns?  We heard that SALAR doubles will be discontinued

A:  We are not going to change anything and we will certainly continue SALAR hooks, they are a top seller.  Infact I would go further and say that we have already added new sizes of a few hooks CS14/2 doubles is now available in 13 and 14’s and X2 trebles are now available in 14, 16, 18 and 20’s in black, silver and gold

Q:  Why have you stopped producing the SHR pattern?

A:  The CZ and SHR patterns are identical but were in different sizes.  We have decided to bring the range together under CZ pattern and extend the range - they are now available in 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18 and 20’s

Q:  Is it true that there will be a new Klinkhamer pattern available in 2009

A:  Yes, all sizes are now available in gold (some folks are asking for silver too)

Esox Lusius Jerk Bait action - a fishes view

We often get asked a couple of key questions about our Jerk baits;

Q:  What is the sink rate of the XL low sinking jerk baits?

A:  5 inches per second

Q:  How do XL jerk baits swim?

A:  Here is a really neat YouTube video for you to see their action

PARTRIDGE of REDDITCH - the bird has returned to the nest!

The bird has returned to the nest as UK-based FishingMatters acquires Partridge of Redditch from Mustad.

Partridge of Redditch has been under the wing of Mustad, Norway, for the past thirteen years,  but this week returned to British hands.

Partridge has 130 years of heritage and can be credited with the invention of modern fly hook manufacture. Wet and dry fly classics are the benchmark hook for fly dressing and Partridge produce the preeminent salmon hook. Sadly in recent years the UK market has been starved of stock with the result that many retailers have sought other brands looking for better stock support - this situation will of course change, with the UK becoming the new distribution centre for Partridge products once again. Fishing Matters has a proven track record of supporting the trade and takes pride in offering a high level of customer service and product compliance.

The international market remains very important to Partridge as do their retailers and distributors so the Fishing Matters team will be working through the markets in the coming months to review the business to better understand their different needs and prepare for future development of both products and business.

Fishing Matters’ spokesman Mark Hamnett explained that the Partridge business fits strategically with their existing portfolio of VARIVAS and  OWNER as there is little or no duplication of products, enabling them to offer a comprehensive range to UK Game, Carp, Predator and Saltwater anglers alike. “We are arranging for the transfer of stock form Gjøvik, so that UK retailers will be able to get product into their shops in time for the new fly tying season. We have already started to contact existing Partridge stockists and international distributors to ensure that we maintain the continuity of delivers to the trade so that no one loses out in the transition period.”
